Consists of the minutes of the Executive, financial records proceedings of seminars and conferences, press cuttings, and individual issues of journals - such as "Encounter" (London), "The Bulletin" (Sydney), and the Association's occasional newsletters and bulletins. The correspondence deals with such issues as the Hungarian uprising in 1956; the Orr Case; the Stuart Case; and other matters of intellectual, academic, political and cultural freedom. Letters to and from such prominent academics, writers and publicists as Donald Horne, James McAuley, Frank Knopfelmacher, Henry Mayers, and R.N. Spann are included as the matters of cultural interest such as the foundation and editing of the journal "Quadrant" (Sydney) with the sponsorship of the Association; and the 1958 visit of Malcolm Muggeridge to Australia.

Donald Horne, author, editor and academic, was born in Sydney in 1921. He began a career in journalism with the Sydney Daily Telegraph (1945). In 1958 he became founding editor of the Observer, and served two terms as editor with the Bulletin (1961-1962, 1967-1972). In 1973 he began teaching political science at the University of NSW and became Associate Professor in 1981 and Emeritus Professor in 1987.
